Hervé Masson’s Centenary

2019 marks 100 years since the birth of Hervé Masson, a painter, writer, politician and one of the most prominent Mauritian artists and intellectuals of the latter half of the 20th century. Celebrations will include two thematic exhibitions devised by Bernard Lehembre and Barbara Luc, both curators and specialists in Mauritian painting; as well as lectures, educational workshops and the launch of an illustrated book by Evan Sohun. The events kicked off in February and are set to run until the end of 2019.

From April 25th to July 26th: “Hervé Masson, the art of the line, the power of colour”, an exhibition of graphic works at the ICAIO gallery in Port Louis.

From September 26th to October 12th: exhibition at the Plaza Theatre in Rose Hill.F

MAMA JAZ festival

The fourth edition of the MAMA JAZ festival celebrates jazz with four concerts in April. Gavin Poonoosamy, the festival’s founder, is on a mission to promote and demystify this musical genre and has put together a programme of performances by local and international artists.

Chinatown Food and Cultural Festival 2019

Over the course of a weekend, the streets of Port Louis’ Chinatown will come alive in the evenings, allowing visitors to discover Chinese culture and gastronomy. It’s an opportunity to sample culinary specialties such as pow or mines, browse the shelves of traditional shops and experience a Chinese dragon dance.

Odysséa Mauritius 2019

Since 2002, French NGO Odysséa has organised events to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer. For its first event in Mauritius, Odysséa has created two races: a 10km nature race and a 5km family hike. The event’s proceeds will help fund breast cancer research and go towards local organisations that support and assist women affected by breast cancer.

8am: Start of 10km timed race

9:30am: Start of 5 km race / untimed walk

La Isla Festival 2068 #2

Organised by La Isla Social Club – a cultural platform that creates arts, musical and cultural events – this festival brings together Mauritian and international artists in a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere.

7. Hang out with surfski champions:

June 24th to 30th

Heritage Mauritius Surfski Week

For one week, the island’s southwest coast (from Bel Ombre to Le Morne) will be home to surfski professionals and amateurs. Surfski is a water sport practiced with a very slim kayak that is specially designed for speed and for surfing waves. The Heritage Mauritius Surfski Week will feature amateur surfski sessions, coaching, and several professional races including the Mauritius Ocean Classic, one of three races that make up the ICF World Cup.

8. Explore the wild south:

Whether it’s a walk with friends, a 10km discovery run, a 21km challenge or an epic 55km trail, the Heritage Trail offers numerous opportunities to discover the Heritage Bel Ombre area and its surroundings. Its courses boast breath-taking views and make their way through the Heritage Nature Reserve, a protected area.

9. Discover a different culture:

Tuesday 3rd September

Ganesh Chaturthi

This Hindu religious holiday, which honours the birth of Ganesh – the elephant-headed god of wisdom – is celebrated across Mauritius, with religious ceremonies in temples and parades in the streets. Wherever you are on the island, you’ll undoubtedly come across a procession of devotees dancing, singing, and carrying effigies of Ganesh. The statues are then taken to the sea or to a lake or river and immersed, to the sound of songs and prayers.

GKA Kite World Tour

Meet us on the beach of Heritage C Beach Club, kite surf spot recognised by thousands of adepts, for a sensational week. This event will bring together international professionals who will compete in wave and strapless freestyle disciplines.

11. A unique golf experience

December 5th to 8th

AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open 2019

AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, a tri-sanctioned tournament by the European Tour, the Asian Tour and the Sunshine Tour, will once again be organised by Heritage Resorts. The luxurious 18-hole championship golf course, Heritage Golf Club, will welcome professional golfers from all over the world.
