Mauritius Wellness Festival by Heritage Resorts

From the 3rd to the 5th of May 2019, Heritage Resorts hosted the first edition of its Wellness Festival. The event, the region’s largest, has position Mauritius as a key destination for wellness holidays. In the gorgeous setting of Heritage Bel Ombre, international wellbeing experts took guests on an inspiring journey of exploration.

Reconnecting to nature
Physical activity is intrinsically linked to wellbeing. But rather than running a marathon, Heritage Resorts allowed guests to combine exercise, mindfulness and the great outdoors. A dream team of wellbeing gurus – including Hanna Barrett, one of London’s best-known bloggers and yogis; Austrian practitioner Jeannette Fuch; and some of Mauritius’ best teachers – have offered various types of yoga, Tai Chi, and the ultra-trendy practice of Qi Gong. Our experts also organised guided trail runs through areas including Chamarel, Le Morne, the Bel Ombre Biosphere Reserve, the Black River Gorges National Park and more.

Having fun
For those who wanted to experience yoga in a new way, the festival offered a range of playful alternatives to the classic vinyasas. Mauritian artists including Sarasvati Mallac, Norbert Planel, David Lagesse and Kim Siew accompanied classes with music and painting. Festival participants were able to try yoga on a Stand Up Paddle, or take Neo Jharee’s acroyoga class – a practice that combines the wisdom of yoga, the muscle of acrobatics and the benevolence of healing practices. Wellness is never as much fun as when you’re suspended in mid-air, floating on the calm waters of the lagoon or handling a paintbrush.

Feeling fulfilled
The Mauritius Wellness Festival by Heritage Resorts has offered a wide range of conferences and workshops on personal development. Dr. Sandra Stallaert, Almarie Venter, Audrey Bracey Deegan and other renowned coaches have led sessions on SoulMapping, HeartMath, Life Balance, the Science of Sensations and other topics. Those seeking relaxation and healing were also able to take part in sound and vibration meditation sessions, practice their breathing with Dominique Lonchant, or try crystal healing.

Healthy diet for physical and mental health

Healthy eating
The science is clear: a healthy diet is essential to your physical and mental health. During the festival, Aurore Rouzzi offered classes on organic farming, nutritionist Sandra de Foucault clarified the harmful effects of sugar, and Marie-Sophie Lelouch allowed participants to discover the benefits of “gastRawnomy”. Since 2012, this naturopath and French chef has become a leading figure in the world of raw and plant-based nutrition, thanks in particular to her website L’Instant Cru and the delicious dishes she concocts for Parisian restaurant L’Alcazar.

Heritage Golf Club : quoi de neuf pour 2019

Whether you’re a pro golfer or a novice, the Heritage Golf Club has an abundance of new offers, amenities and events in store for you in 2019. Here’s a quick glimpse of what’s coming up.

1. Book your tee-off online

Heritage Golf Club has now partnered with Golfscape, an online golf concierge platform that allows Heritage Resorts non-residents to book tee-offs on more than 100 golf courses worldwide. Gone are the days when you needed to be on-site to select a tee-off time and pay for your round – now, you can simply access the booking platform via the Heritage Golf Club or Golfscape websites, from any device (mobile, tablet or computer).

2. Get behind the wheel of a Golf Skate Caddy

Heritage Golf Club is the first club in Mauritius to offer this innovative new way of getting around the green. As an alternative to the traditional golf cart, the Golf Skate Caddy brings an element of playfulness to your rounds. If you think finding lost balls is a chore, the Golf Skate Caddy just might help you change your mind: it’s practical and easy to handle, suitable for players of all ages and doesn’t require any skateboarding skills to drive! It’s also a time-saver (reducing game times by up to 25%) because each player can go straight to his or her ball without being distracted by others’ games. And, as icing on the cake: because it is lighter, it does less damage to the green; is equipped with a removable seat that you can use as you wait your turn to play; and even comes with a cooler… all the better to keep you feeling fresh on the course!

3. Attend an international tournament

AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open 2017 at Heritage Resorts

The Afrasia Bank Mauritius Open is coming back to Heritage Golf Club from the 5th to the 8th of December 2019. This tournament, tri-sanctioned by the European, Asian and Sunshine Tours, is increasing popular with both the legends and the rising stars of golf. Don’t wait – book your holidays through your travel agency now, and come and watch some of the world’s greatest players compete.

4. Get advice from a pro

When they aren’t taking part in a tournament on the other side of the world, the Heritage Golf Club’s four ambassadors are in Mauritius giving demonstrations. Take advantage of these intimate “golf clinics” to get lots of advice from our pro players: German player Marcel Siem from the European Tour; renowned French golfer Romain Langasque; Clément Sordet, another Frenchman, who won a place on the European Tour in 2018; and Jaco van Zyl, a South African previously ranked among the wold’s 50 best players in the official rankings. Please ask golf staff for availability.

5. Train continuously

Enjoy personalised training with PGA-certified players thanks to our partnership with PROject GOLF academy, which is kicking off this year. If you started training with instructor Christian-Leslie Schanz during your Heritage Resorts vacation and would like to continue with his methods, the PROject GOLFacademy gives you access to like-minded instructors in Germany and Curacao. Several other partnerships with European instructors are in the works. Watch this space!

6. Take on big beasts

The Rogers Indian Ocean Amateur Golf Open will be held at the Heritage Golf Club from the 4th to the 6th of October this year. The tournament brings together the Indian Ocean’s best amateur players and allows local golfers to compete against the regional elite. It is also an opportunity for talented youngsters to play alongside more seasoned players, and perhaps to secure a place in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.

7. And, as a bonus, some great new partnerships!

We’ll be announcing two new projects in collaboration with golf champion Louis Oosthuizen at the BMW International Open in Germany in June this year. Louis enjoys a reputation as an internationally renowned golfer, with eight victories in the European Tour and a British Open to his credit. Though he’s ranked among the world’s top 30 players, he isn’t afraid to take on new challenges! Working alongside Peter Matkovich, he will help design our second 18-hole championship course. He’s also brought another of his dreams to life by producing a line of exceptional wines under the brand Louis57, in association with South African winemaker Jacques Borman. For more information, visit the Heritage Resorts stand at the Open!
