VLH sets its sights on the west coast with Veranda Tamarin

The group has acquired Hotel Tamarin, the iconic hangout of local surfers in the 70s and 80s. It aims to transform the hotel by the first of November into Veranda Resorts’ latest hospitality offering. The resort’s dramatic revamp will encapsulate the hippie-chic coastal lifestyle Hotel Tamarin was known for, with a fresh, modern twist: design details include rattan furniture with a bohemian flair, pops of neon and airy linen.

Veranda Tamarin will naturally make the most out of its spectacular location. A rooftop pool and bar will provide clients with a panoramic view of Tamarin Bay. Each of the hotel’s 116 rooms comes with a Beach Kit (beach basket, cooler, mat, towel), which provides the perfect introduction to the bay’s lifestyle.

Veranda Tamarin restaurants

The hotel will flawlessly meld with Tamarin’s culture, just as Hotel Tamarin stood as a vital part of the local scene. The restaurants and bars are vibrantly named and provide colourful palate-pleasers: Ye! Man, Tribu, Crazy Fish Bar and View will delight guests with exquisite local cuisine and international dishes. Kas Dal, an innovative hospitality offering (literally ‘hunger-breaker’ in Mauritian Creole), is a grocery store near the hotel entrance: it delivers street food, drinks and picnic packs catering to small local breaks during the day. True to the surfers’ culture, the hotel will also have a surf shop, providing the best in swimwear brands and kitesurfing materials.

Activities and entertainment on the west coast of Mauritius

When it opens later this year, Veranda Tamarin will undoubtedly become the place to be, thriving on youth, art and music. The finest Mauritian performers will provide the rhythm of the hotel’s evenings, a different theme every night. Special activities organised once a week ensure that no stay in the hotel is ever the same. During the day, guests will revel in all the village has to offer: unsurprisingly, the bay is a sport lover’s dream, the perfect place for snorkelling, surfing, dolphin watching and Stand Up Paddling to name just a few activities. Exploring the village is a real treat, on foot or by bike: guests will learn about local history while riding by the salt pans, visiting the Chamarel coloured earth and Le Morne world heritage site. Hikers will enjoy spectacular climbs up the Black River Gorges.

Veranda Tamarin will of course include Veranda Resorts, signature Seven Colours spa, as well as a fitness centre and meeting room. Free Wi-Fi in all the rooms and common areas ensures that the hotel will be active on social media channels; moments spent in Veranda Tamarin are meant to be shared, after all.
